Events and courses
Events is under Content in the left-hand menu. It holds three kinds of record, mixed together in one list:
- events you create in the CMS
- events that arrive automatically from your events feed
- education courses, which arrive automatically from your course provider
They look similar at a glance but behave very differently. This article covers all three, plus Event Types, a small required setup screen they all depend on.
There is no draft. As soon as you click Save, the record is live on the website. If you need to work on something over several days, write it up elsewhere first and create the record when it's ready.
Creating an event
- Click Events in the left-hand menu.
- Click Create New.
- Fill in Title, Preview Message, Start Date, End Date, Event Types and Categories — the record won't save without all six.
- Write a Description.
- Fill in pricing and details under Ticket Info if the event is ticketed.
- Click Save.
Event Types is required on every event, and it drives how events are grouped and filtered on the site — see below. If the type you need doesn't exist yet, create it first.
Members Only, in the sidebar, restricts the event to signed-in members.
Courses are a different Kind, in the same list
Every record has a Kind: Event or Course. It's read-only — you can't change it by hand — because courses are created entirely by the sync from your education system, never by staff.
When Kind is Course, the record shows a Course Data tab instead of the usual Tangilla data, carrying the course's hours, CE credits, host, delivery type and description — all read-only, all owned by your education system.
Not every course in your education system appears here. Which ones are published is a decision your association made during setup. If a course you expect is missing, that's usually the filter working as intended — check with your account contact before treating it as a fault.
Events that come from your events feed
Some events aren't typed in by anyone — they arrive automatically on a schedule. Open any event and check the sidebar:
| Field | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Source | Manual — someone created it here. Tangilla or EdConnect — it came from a feed |
| Tangilla Event ID | The event's reference in the feed. Blank on events you created |
| Last Synced | When the feed last updated this record |
All three are read-only. If you edit a synced event, your change is replaced the next time that event updates at source. Correct it in the source system instead — the fix flows through on the next sync.
Events you create in the CMS are never touched by the sync. Use this for anything the feed doesn't carry.
The sync never deletes anything. If an event disappears from the feed, its record stays in the CMS — check the feed first before assuming something's wrong.
Ticket Info
Member price, non-member price, ticket count, location and an external registration link, if you use one instead of building tickets here. Location and pricing are only required on manual/synced events — courses don't use this tab.
Finding a record
The list shows Title, Kind, Start Date and when it was last updated. Use the search box to find one by name.
Deleting
Deleting is permanent — there's no undo, and no draft to fall back on. Deleting a synced event or course doesn't remove it at the source, and the next sync may bring it straight back. Remove it there instead.
Where this appears on the website
Each event has its own page under /events/. Courses appear under /education/find-a-course/ instead, keyed by their course class ID.
Event Types
Event Types is under Site Features in the left-hand menu. It's the short list Events pulls its required Event Types field from — training, networking, board meetings, and so on.
- Click Event Types in the left-hand menu.
- Click Create New.
- Type the Name.
- Save.
Because it's a required field on every event, set up the types you'll need before you start adding events — you can't finish creating one without at least one type to choose. If you delete a type that events are using, reassign those events first; a required field left empty is an inconsistent state.
